You got REALLY good at carrying a life that’s NOT yours!

You’re still getting things done. Answering the text. Remembering what everybody else forgot. Being the person people call because they know you’ll handle it.

And after all of that, you’re looking at your own life thinking:

When exactly do I get to LIVE it?

I help high-responsibility humans notice the patterns that keep putting themselves last and build work & lives that fit the person they are now.

You probably don’t need another way to handle more. Bc you already know how.

You can make the packed calendar work. The job you’ve outgrown. The family schedule built around everybody else. The yes you gave because saying no felt like more work.

That’s part of why this gets missed.

You keep everything moving so well that most people don’t see what it’s costing you.

Then when you’re wiped out again, you start looking for another fix. Better boundaries. A different routine. More discipline. A vacation.

I’m less interested in helping you keep up. I want to know why your life requires this much keeping up in the first place.

That's why we start with your nervous system, not your calendar!

no gold stars. no checklists. no clinical lectures. just support that lands in your body.

The cure isn’t bubble baths, wellness webinars, or PTO you’re too guilty to take.

You want a better Tuesday. Not just a better vacation from the Tuesday you keep creating.

As a helper — whether you’re in a therapy room, classroom, hospital, courtroom, crisis line, or on the scene — you’re marinating in others’ stress, trauma, and emotional overflow. Generic “self-care” doesn’t touch that.

Sometimes the pattern is hiding in plain sight.

  • You take over because it’s faster than waiting for somebody else to do it.

  • You say yes, then spend three days irritated that you said yes.

  • You rearrange your week around somebody else’s emergency.

  • You answer messages when you’re already done for the day.

  • You keep telling yourself things will calm down after this week.

Then next week looks suspiciously familiar. And eventually you decide you need to work on yourself again.

Maybe… it’s worth looking at the structure you keep putting yourself back inside. Because… getting better at surviving the same setup isn’t really the goal here.

START WHERE YOU ARE

There are four ways into this work.

hey y’all, i’m shawna!
Shawna Lovin, LPC-S from Hey Y'all, It's Shawna

Keeping high-responsibility helpers human.

I’m a therapist, Texas LPC Supervisor, Clinical Culture Dropout who stayed licensed, Human Design nerd, business builder, LEO wife, mom, and somebody who’s spent more than 25 years inside mental health, wellness, crisis work, counseling, and the helping professions.

I’ve watched capable people get VERY good at carrying things. And I’ve also caught myself doing plenty of it. That’s why I’m not interested in giving you another five-step formula for becoming better at surviving your own life.

I’m building mine differently too. That’s a big part of what Hey Y’all, It’s Shawna is about.

this is where the longer conversation happens

Hey Y’all, It’s Shawna, is where I talk about burnout, helping professions, work, identity, capacity, Human Design, changing your mind, building businesses, and trying to build a different life while you’re still standing in the middle of the old one.

Sometimes clinical. Sometimes personal. Sometimes I realize halfway through that I’m calling myself out too.

Fair enough.

Before you decide you need to try harder again...

Look at what keeps happening.

Where do you automatically take over?

Where do you say yes before checking what it’ll cost you?

Where are you making something work simply because you’re VERY good at making things work?

That pattern is probably more useful than another list of things to fix.

you weren’t meant to get this good at surviving the work.

You were meant to have a LIFE outside of it.

Whether you’re an LPC Associate trying to become a solid clinician without making burnout part of the job description, a mid-career helper thinking, “I’m over this, but I’m not done,” or a seasoned therapist, educator, responder, medical or legal professional who knows the way you’re working now isn’t sustainable...

You’re in the right place.

This work is about figuring out what keeps draining you, what actually needs to change, and how to keep doing meaningful work without disappearing inside the role.
